Agartala, 20th March 2026:    Just two days after the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) election results were announced, security forces detained a key operative of the banned group Tripura United National Front (TUNF) in North Tripura’s Damchera area, near the Mizoram border.

Police sources confirmed that Vanlal Liana Reang (48), also known as Ornojoy Reang and “Pastor,” was arrested in connection with a case registered at Vanghmun Police Station under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Explosive Substances Act.

The TSR 13th Battalion team initially stopped Reang on the Damchera–Kanchanpur road after noticing his suspicious behavior. During the search, authorities recovered materials linking him to TUNF and his involvement in a broader conspiracy. He was subsequently handed over to Vanghmun Police Station.

According to the police, Reang was part of a TUNF plot to sabotage police vehicles, target security personnel, and seize arms and ammunition. Investigators recovered organizational seals of TUNF, digital evidence, and earlier seizures included explosives like electric detonators and Neogol-90.

“The investigation is ongoing to identify other members of the network and dismantle the group’s operations,” officials said.
