Agartala Customs Division seizes over 2k grams of heroin worth Rs 14 crore

Agartala, June 10, 2023: Acting on specific information, the Customs Officers of Agartala ICP, under Agartala Customs Division seized 2,023 grams of heroin smuggled through Agartala ICP located on the Indo-Bangla border.

In this regard, one person has been arrested under the provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985. On Friday last, the Customs officers intercepted the person with a black suitcase with which the person was travelling from Akhaura, Bangladesh to Agartala.

After thorough checking, 2023 grams of white powder wrapped in x-ray blocking paper board was recovered in 2 (two) packets concealed in the black suitcase from the possession of the suspect. The value of the heroin seized in the international illicit market is estimated at Rs 14.16 crore.

The seized heroin was concealed in such a manner that even x-ray machine could not detect it. Only a well-planned and swift action from the Customs officials outsmarted the accused in his criminal endeavor. The person has been transferred to judicial custody on Saturday.

This break-through by Custom will surely put a dent on the illicit activities of the international drug rackets trying to function in the State. Further Investigation on the case is in progress.
