Agartala, 5th March 2024: The capital city of Tripura is on the cusp of a significant transformation as the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) spearheads the modernization of local markets. Mayor Dipak Majumdar, after a comprehensive inspection of the Border Gol Chakkar Bazar, has announced a series of ambitious initiatives aimed at revitalizing the city’s commercial hubs.
“During the tenure of the previous Left Front government, the Border Gol Chakkar market was established haphazardly, without a coherent strategy,” stated Majumdar. This lack of planning has led to a decline in foot traffic, with over half of the shops shuttering daily due to a dearth of customers.
In response to this, the current state administration has launched an extensive improvement project for the area. A cornerstone of this initiative is the construction of a lighthouse, which is expected to become a residential haven for numerous families. Complementing this development is the near completion of a major road expansion project, which will facilitate better access and mobility.
The Mayor also outlined plans to dismantle the existing market structure to make way for a new, state-of-the-art market complex designed with the needs of the local community in mind. “The commencement of the construction work is scheduled post the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections,” he added.
In a further commitment to the city’s development, Majumdar visited 18 housing units and an Anganwadi center currently under construction in Rabidas Para, signaling a broader push towards urban renewal and infrastructural enhancement in Agartala.
