Agartala, 26th August 2025: With Durga Puja just weeks away, the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), in partnership with the Smart City initiative, has launched an intensive beautification and sanitation campaign to prepare the city for the festive influx.
A high-level coordination meeting was convened Tuesday at the AMC Conference Hall, where Mayor Dipak Majumder met with all ward councillors to accelerate civic works across Agartala. While such meetings are held monthly, the mayor underscored the urgency of this session given the scale of preparations required for the upcoming celebrations.
“Last month, we took key decisions. Today, we’re reviewing implementation and identifying gaps to ensure the city is fully ready for Durga Puja,” Majumder said.
To fast-track improvements, AMC has sanctioned ₹15 lakh for each ward. The funds will be directed toward: drain renovation and road repairs, installation of street lighting in underserved areas, and enhanced sanitation and civic infrastructure.
In addition, Mayor Majumder has sought supplementary funding from the Chief Minister to meet the increased demands of the season. The CM has reportedly responded favorably, enabling AMC to boost manpower for sanitation and maintenance.
Continuing its annual tradition, AMC will assign two safai karmis (sanitation workers) to each registered Puja club from Panchami to Dashami. Clubs that maintain civic discipline and adhere to safety protocols will be formally recognized by AMC post-festival.
Mayor Majumder assured that ongoing infrastructure projects—particularly drain and road renovations—are progressing swiftly and will be completed before the festivities begin. He emphasized the importance of presenting a clean and safe city, noting that Durga Puja attracts thousands of visitors from across Tripura and neighboring states.
As the countdown to Durga Puja begins, AMC’s intensified efforts aim to ensure Agartala is not only celebration-ready but also a model of urban preparedness.
