Agartala, 11th October 2026 : In a crackdown on suspected drug trafficking, the Government Railway Police (GRPS) arrested a 26-year-old man and recovered 16.305 kg of suspected cannabis, with an estimated black-market value of Rs 8 lakh, from Agartala Railway Station on Sunday.
The seizure took place at approximately 11 am in the railway yard, near track No. 13 in the loading and unloading zone beside the workers’ shed.
The arrested person has been identified as Partha Biswas, a resident of Sadhutila, Chandramohanpara, under East Agartala Police Station in West Tripura district. According to GRPS Officer-in-Charge Raju Bhowmik, the suspected cannabis was found inside two trolley bags reportedly in the possession of the accused.
The operation was conducted by Sub-Inspector Biswajit Das along with other GRPS personnel. After recovering the suspected narcotics, the police seized the substance and detained the accused for further investigation.
A case has been registered at Agartala GRPS under case number 2026GRP073. The accused has been booked under Sections 20(b)(ii)(B) and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Police are now investigating the origin of the seized substance and the circumstances surrounding its transportation. Investigators are also trying to establish whether the accused was acting alone or had links with other people involved in the suspected drug trafficking network.
The seizure comes amid intensified efforts by law enforcement agencies to curb the movement of narcotic substances in the state ahead of the Durga Puja festivities.
