Agartala Municipal Corporation announces budget of Rs 416.74 crore for 2024-25 with a slight deficit

Agartala, 7th March 2024 :   The Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) has announced its budget for the financial year 2024-25, with a total outlay of Rs 416.74 crore and a projected deficit of Rs 76.75 lakh. The budget was presented by Mayor Dipak Majumder at the AMC conference hall on Thursday.

The Mayor said that the budget was prepared with the aim of providing better services and amenities to the citizens of Agartala, the capital city of Tripura. He said that the deficit amount was negligible compared to the total budget and that the AMC would try to bridge the gap by increasing its revenue collection through wealth tax and trade license fees, without imposing any additional burden on the taxpayers.

He also gave a brief overview of the previous year’s budget performance and said that the AMC had achieved 99.86% of its revenue target and 99.61% of its expenditure target for the year 2023-24. The total revenue and capital income for the last year was Rs 396.46 crore and the total expenditure was Rs 397.01 crore, resulting in a shortfall of rs 55.22 lakh.

He further said that the AMC had increased its income and expenditure estimates by 4.92% and 4.97% respectively for the next year, compared to the last year. The proposed income for 2024-25 is Rs 415.97 crore and the proposed expenditure is Rs 416.74 crore. He said that the AMC would focus on improving the infrastructure, sanitation, water supply, street lighting, solid waste management, health care, education, and social welfare sectors in the city. He also mentioned some of the major projects and schemes that the AMC would undertake or continue in the next year, such as the Smart City Mission, the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), the Swachh Bharat Mission, the National Urban Livelihood Mission (NULM), and the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
