Agartala Press Club holds AGM, focus on Journalists’ welfare and safety

Agartala, 19th April 2026:   The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Agartala Press Club was held today in Agartala. The meeting commenced with a solemn tribute to the recently deceased journalists Tapan Chakraborty and Nandan Chakraborty.

The session was presided over by Agartala Press Club President Pranab Sarkar, along with Vice President Chitra Roy and senior journalists Shrotaranjan Khisa and Sanjeev Deb. Senior Editor Sameer Pal and noted poet-writer Bimalendu Chakraborty were also present on the dais.

At around 11:30 am, Secretary Ramakanta Dey presented the editorial report along with the income and expenditure statement of the club. The report was subsequently discussed by senior members, including Sameer Pal, Chitra Roy, Sanjeev Deb, Manimoy Roy, Krishnapada Karmakar, Debashish Majumdar, Suprabhat Debnath, Samrat Chowdhury, Chandrima Sirkar, and Meghdhan Deb, as well as associate members Bimalendu Chakraborty and Parijat Dutta.

During the discussion, members appreciated the continuous improvement in the club’s functioning and its initiatives aimed at the welfare of journalists. Both senior and young journalists lauded the improved quality of the canteen services. Suggestions were also put forward to strengthen measures ensuring the safety and security of journalists.

Responding to the discussions, Secretary Ramakanta Dey delivered a detailed reply, addressing key issues raised by members. The meeting concluded at around 1:15 pm with the closing remarks by President Pranab Sarkar.
