Agartala Press Club seeks assured safety for journalists across state

Date:

Agartala, 24th April 2026:   The Agartala Press Club has urged the Director General of Police (DGP) to ensure full protection for journalists working in both tribal and non-tribal areas of Tripura, including the hills and plains.

Just after the conclusion of the ADC elections, a delegation led by Press Club President Pranab Sarkar met the DGP on Friday to press for enhanced safety measures. The team included Vice President Chitra Roy, Joint Secretaries Kamal Choudhury and Abhishek Dey, and Executive Member Abhishek Debbarma.

The delegation arrived at the police headquarters in the afternoon and held discussions with the DGP and senior officials in the conference hall. During the meeting, they raised several demands: preventing misuse of press stickers, providing press jackets, curbing the activities of so-called “content creators,” and strengthening overall security for working journalists.

Following the deputation, Pranab Sarkar stated that the DGP expressed agreement with the concerns raised and assured that necessary steps would be taken to address them.
