Agartala’s New Civil Hospital to Reduce Pressure on GB Pant, Boost Healthcare Access: CM

Date:

Agartala, 6th July 2026:   Tripura Chief Minister and Health Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Monday said that the upcoming Civil Hospital in Agartala will play a crucial role in reducing the patient burden on major referral hospitals, particularly GB Pant Hospital, while improving access to quality healthcare for residents.

The newly constructed 50-bedded Civil Hospital is fully ready for inauguration, with the official opening expected soon. The hospital has been equipped with modern healthcare infrastructure, including an oxygen generation plant, emergency medical services, and ample parking facilities to ensure better patient care.

Speaking about the project, Dr. Saha said the new hospital would provide much-needed relief to referral hospitals, which currently handle a heavy influx of patients from across the state.

“The Civil Hospital will help reduce the load on referral hospitals like GB Pant. Many patients also face communication and transportation difficulties, and this hospital will make healthcare services more accessible. We have ensured modern treatment facilities, and doctors from various specialties will be available here. The Medical Superintendent of IGM Hospital will oversee the administration of this hospital,” the Chief Minister said.

Dr. Saha also highlighted the government’s continued efforts to strengthen Tripura’s healthcare system. He said recruitment of healthcare professionals is underway, while new posts are being created to address manpower requirements.

“These initiatives are aimed at further improving the state’s health infrastructure. Our government remains committed to strengthening the healthcare sector and ensuring better medical services for the people of Tripura,” he added.

The inauguration of the Civil Hospital is expected to significantly enhance healthcare delivery in Agartala by providing advanced medical facilities closer to residents and easing congestion at the state’s premier referral hospitals.
