Agartala, 5th  February 2026 :  The Bharatiya Ganatantrik Mahila Samiti staged a protest march in the city today, alleging that the Union Budget for 2026–27 is anti-people, anti-women, and tilted in favor of corporate interests.

During the rally, participants called upon citizens from all walks of life to extend support to the nationwide workers’ strike scheduled for February 12.

The procession began at the Mela Ground and moved through several city roads before converging at Paradise Choumuhani, where a protest meeting was held. Demonstrators raised slogans questioning why the budget failed to increase allocations for the MGNREGA scheme.

Addressing the gathering, a woman leader accused the government of ignoring the interests of ordinary people, workers, and women while ensuring benefits for corporate groups. She warned that inadequate funding for welfare programs like MGNREGA would push rural poor and laboring communities into severe crisis. The leader demanded immediate withdrawal of the budget and urged the government to accept workers’ demands without delay.
