Two drug traffickers arrested with heroin in late-night raid near Pragati School

Agartala, 5th  February 2026 :  Acting on a specific tip-off, police from West Police Station conducted a late-night raid on Wednesday in the area adjacent to Pragati School, leading to the arrest of two alleged drug traffickers along with a substantial quantity of heroin. The incident has created a stir among local residents.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Bunty Nayak and Sujit Roy, both residents of the Radhanagar area. According to police sources, the duo had been involved in illegal narcotics trade for a long time in and around the Pragati School locality. They were allegedly selling various drugs, including heroin, with a particular focus on targeting youth.

Police said that after receiving complaints and inputs, covert surveillance was mounted in the area. Based on concrete information from a reliable source, the raid was carried out late on Wednesday night. During the operation, the two suspects were apprehended and searched, leading to the recovery of heroin estimated to be worth over ₹1 lakh in the illegal market. The seized contraband has been confiscated.

Officer-in-Charge of West Police Station, Rana Chatterjee, said that during interrogation, the accused have disclosed several crucial details about the drug network. “We are hopeful that further arrests will be made based on the information being gathered,” he said, adding that efforts are underway to trace the source of the narcotics and the areas of distribution.

The arrested persons were produced before a court on Thursday, with police seeking their remand. Investigation into the case has been intensified as part of a broader anti-narcotics drive.
