Agartala, 21st October 2025: Alarmed by a spate of brutal crimes targeting women and children across Tripura, leaders of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) met senior police officials today and submitted a memorandum to the Director General of Police (DGP), demanding urgent and stringent action.
The delegation led by senior AIDWA representatives, expressed grave concern over a series of violent incidents reported between early September and mid-October. The memorandum detailed multiple cases, including the murder of a seven-year-old girl by her father in Latiyacherra under Kailashahar sub-division on September 9, and the alleged killing of Geeta Sutradhar, who was reportedly set ablaze and abandoned near a railway track in East Agartala on September 13.
Other incidents cited include the alleged rape of a mentally challenged woman at the Kailashahar Court premises on September 18, and the public burning of housewife Anjali Sarkar in Mirza of Kakraban the following day. On September 29, an elderly woman was reportedly hacked to death in Hirapur, Udaipur with her body found mutilated.
The memorandum also highlighted recent cases involving minors. On October 2, a Class IX student from South Joynagar was allegedly sexually assaulted and forced to ingest a toxic substance; she is currently receiving treatment at AIIMS, New Delhi. On October 5, a 14-year-old orphaned girl from Maharani, Udaipur, was reportedly subjected to physical abuse.
AIDWA further drew attention to the October 10 abduction of a 14-year-old girl from Indranagar, where her mother was shoved aside before the child was taken away in a car. On October 13, a house owner in East Gokulpur allegedly raped a seven-year-old girl in front of her parents. The most harrowing case, according to the memorandum, took place on October 14 in North Padmabil under Panisagar sub-division, where a 14-month-old baby girl was reportedly raped, murdered, and buried under mud.
Calling for immediate intervention, AIDWA urged the police chief to ensure swift investigations and exemplary punishment for the accused. The organization emphasized the need for comprehensive support for victims and their families, including legal aid, medical care, and financial assistance.
The memorandum also demanded: Strict action against perpetrators, timely police response to complaints, protection and rehabilitation for survivors, government-sponsored treatment for injured victims, compensation for families of murdered women, and special relief for the mother of the infant victim in Panisagar.
AIDWA leaders warned that continued delays and lack of accountability were undermining public trust in law enforcement and emboldening offenders. They called on authorities to take decisive steps to restore confidence and deliver justice.
