Agartala, 20th June 2025:  The All Tripura Unorganized Workers Congress submitted a deputation to the Secretary of the Ministry of Rural Development today pressing for seven key demands aimed at improving the livelihood conditions of REGA (Rural Employment Guarantee Act) workers across the state.

Earlier in the day, hundreds of Congress leaders and workers took out a protest rally from the Pradesh Congress Bhavan, marching through prominent streets of the city. The rally culminated in a mass deputation presented to central officials, highlighting what the organization termed as “long-standing neglect of REGA workers.”

Addressing the gathering, organization chairman Shantanu Pal alleged that despite prior assurances from the ruling BJP government, the REGA wage rates have not been revised. “The government promised enhanced wages, but the reality on the ground remains unchanged. Workers are still subjected to outdated rates, and unemployment compensation is often delayed, leading to severe financial distress,” Pal stated.

The deputation outlined seven demands, including a guarantee of 200 working days per year under REGA, a hike in daily wages to Rs 500, and timely disbursal of wages within seven days of work completion.
