Agartala, 3rd June 2025: The newly constructed road linking Panichowki Bazaar to Govindapur has deteriorated within just a month of completion leaving traders and residents in distress. Large portions of the road surface have crumbled, turning into potholes, which severely impact daily activities in the bustling commercial area.
Despite allegations of substandard materials being used in the Rs 24 lakh project, the Public Works Department has remained silent. Traders claim that the rapid deterioration of the road stands as stark evidence of administrative failure and deep-rooted corruption.
Members of the Kailashahar Merchant Association have raised concerns, stating that the Chairperson of the Municipal Council has been informed about the issue. However, as of 3 p.m. on June 3, neither officials from the department nor representatives of the contractor have visited the site.
Local residents now question the quality of infrastructure projects across the region, wondering what conditions might be like in rural areas if such negligence occurs in the city itself. The inaction of the Public Works Department has intensified suspicions of corruption, with citizens demanding accountability and answers regarding who is responsible for the crumbling road.
