Agartala, 6th March 2025: A dispute within a family in Boxanagar recently escalated into allegations of defamation against a Zilla Parishad member. The controversy started when four sisters-in-law from the same family got into a verbal and physical altercation over a financial matter. The incident initially involved a minor disagreement, soon took a different turn when misleading narratives spread on social media.
The dispute began on February 11 in Paschim para, Madhya Boxanagar Gram Panchayat, when Shiuli Akhter, the wife of Rabiul Hossain encountered her relative Selina Akhter and Selina’s daughter Mithu Akhter. Selina had taken a loan of Rs 1.5 lakh in her name from Bandhan Bank on Shiuli’s request, under the condition that Shiuli would repay it in installments. However, after nearly a year of non-payment, Selina confronted Shiuli near the panchayat office, leading to a heated argument that escalated into physical pushing.
Hearing the commotion, the Panchayat Pradhan, Shah Jalal and the Upa Pradhan, Abul Kalam Azad along with Zilla Parishad member Milaner Necha, who is also Shiuli’s sister-in-law rushed to the scene. Milan along with two other sisters-in-law, Beauty and Roksana attempted to intervene and resolve the issue. However, Shiuli allegedly reacted aggressively, using offensive language against both her own relatives and Selina. Despite efforts from local leaders, the situation intensified, prompting Shiuli to seek justice through legal channels instead of a social settlement. She later filed a police complaint at Kalamchoura police station, accusing six individuals of cutting her hair.
The matter took a political turn when a Facebook channel allegedly spread misinformation, targeting Milaner Necha and her party. Milan, who had initially remained silent to protect her dignity, later addressed the media, providing clarification. She stated that the altercation was a private family dispute over a loan, witnessed by many in the village, including local leaders. She accused certain individuals of twisting the incident to tarnish her reputation and that of her political party.
Further allegations surfaced regarding Shiuli’s background, with sources claiming she had a history of engaging in unethical activities. Milan alleged that Shiuli had misused her elderly father-in-law’s trust to engage in illicit activities at their home, located near the Bangladesh border. Reports suggest Shiuli’s daughters were married at a young age, with multiple failed marriages linked to financial settlements. Additionally, Milan accused Shiuli of involvement in smuggling and human trafficking, warning locals to remain cautious.
The Zilla Parishad member strongly condemned the spread of false information and emphasized her commitment to maintaining her dignity and public service. She urged the public to be aware of misleading narratives and assured that the truth would prevail.
