Agartala, 11th October 2025 :  A woman from Purba Durlabh Narayan under Sonamura police station has filed a formal complaint alleging public assault by Subhash Chandra Nama, the booth president of No. 12 under Nalchar assembly constituency. The incident, which reportedly took place during Durga Puja festivities has triggered widespread concern among local residents.

According to the complaint lodged by Monika Sarkar Nama and her husband Asim Nama, the incident took place on Maha Dashami’s evening around 5 PM near the Shikaribari School Puja pandal. Monika had gone to collect prasad with her daughter Ankita when Subhash Chandra Nama allegedly confronted her with a false accusation and physically assaulted her in front of her child and other onlookers.

Despite the presence of numerous witnesses, no one reportedly intervened. The puja was organized with the involvement of Nalchar Mandal member Bimal Das, who later assured the family of a social resolution. However, the family claims that no action was taken and the matter was suppressed due to the accused’s political influence.

Monika’s family asserts that the attack was politically motivated and targeted, despite there being no allegations against her husband. “If the administration remains silent even after such public humiliation by a booth president, where do ordinary citizens turn for justice?” Monika questioned.

The incident has stirred unrest in the locality, with many residents condemning the misuse of political power and calling the behavior unacceptable. Sonamura police have confirmed receipt of the complaint. It remains to be seen whether the authorities will act impartially and rise above political pressure to ensure justice.
