Agartala, 24th August 2026 :Allegations of irregularities have surfaced over the selection of Tripura’s Under-14 boys’ and girls’ teams for a national-level competition, with the complainant’s side claiming that an inquiry by the Tripura Sports Council found its Secretary Minati Pal and Vice-President Chandan Sur responsible for the alleged lapses.
According to sources, Manindra Chandra Deb submitted a written complaint to the Secretary of the Tripura Sports Council on January 27, 2026, concerning the selection camp for the Under-14 boys’ and girls’ teams held on November 23, 2025.
As per the complaint, 15 boys and 15 girls were selected for the main teams, while several others were kept on standby. The complainant alleged that participants were initially informed that ₹3,500 would be collected from each player. However, an additional ₹1,300 was allegedly demanded later, without prior discussion or informing the Council president, taking the total amount to ₹4,800 per player.
The complaint further claimed that arranging the additional amount was difficult for many families. However, hoping that their children would get an opportunity to participate in the national competition, the parents reportedly managed to arrange the money.
The complainant also alleged that his daughter was removed from the main team without any clear written or verbal explanation. He reportedly came to know about the decision through Samir Ranjan Pal. According to the complaint, on the evening of November 26, the family was informed that the girl would not be able to participate in the national competition.
It was further alleged that even after reaching the railway station, the child was told that she could not travel because the mobile number provided was incorrect and officials had been unable to contact her.
The complaint described the incident as a serious issue concerning child rights, the mental well-being of young athletes and fair treatment of players. It alleged that the absence of a written explanation for the child’s exclusion caused her unnecessary mental distress.
The complainant’s side now claims that the inquiry conducted by the Tripura Sports Council established the allegations and found Secretary Minati Pal and Vice-President Chandan Sur responsible.
Following the alleged findings, demands have intensified for prompt administrative action against those held responsible. The next course of action by the President of the Tripura Sports Council is now being closely watched by the affected players and their parents.
