Agartala, 22nd March 2025:   In the dead of night, a contractor was engaged in road repair work in the Newtown Road area. However, the work was abruptly stopped by local residents, who raised allegations of corruption and irregularities.

The residents accused the contractor of substandard work, stating that while the prescribed thickness of the asphalt layer was supposed to be 4 inches, only 2 inches were being applied. They also questioned why the work was being carried out under the cover of darkness without the presence of officials, including engineers and supervisory staff from the Sub-Divisional Office (SDO).

As tensions escalated, the engineer reportedly fled the scene under mounting pressure from the public. The incident has sparked widespread concern about transparency and accountability in public infrastructure projects.
