Agartala, 21st August 2026 : The Tripura Human Rights Commission has sought an inquiry report from the Commissioner of the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) over allegations of harassment, humiliation, use of abusive language and an attempted manhandling of a couple by an Assistant Municipal Commissioner.
The complaint was filed by one Chayan Pal, and his wife Supta Pal, residents of Geetanjali Apartment on H.G.B. Road, Agartala, against Swapnajit Sarkar, Assistant Municipal Commissioner, East Zone, AMC.
According to the complaint, the couple alleged that the AMC official harassed and humiliated them and allegedly attempted to manhandle them while using filthy and abusive language during the discharge of his official duties.
The Commission, headed by Justice Arindam Lodh, observed that the complaint petition contained the allegations and that a number of supporting documents had been attached to it.
The Commission has directed that a copy of the complaint be forwarded to the Commissioner, Agartala Municipal Corporation, with a request to conduct an inquiry into the allegations and submit a report specifically on the alleged violation of the human rights of the petitioners.
The matter has been fixed for hearing after 20 days, with the case scheduled to be listed on September 16, 2026, for submission of the report by the AMC Commissioner.
The order was passed by Justice Arindam Lodh, Chairperson of the Tripura Human Rights Commission.
