Agartala, 24th July 2026: Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder on Friday said the civic body has finalised the locations and pipeline routes for three additional drainage pumps aimed at addressing the persistent problem of waterlogging in different parts of the city.
During an inspection visit, Majumder said the site for one of the pumps was finalised in the Madhyapara area, while the pipeline route for another pump to be installed in front of Banipith Girls’ School at Ramnagar No. 4 was also approved. A third pump will be installed near the Satsang-TRTC corner, another location prone to water accumulation during heavy rainfall.
He stated that installation work for the three pumps has already begun in several areas, and the laying of the remaining pipelines will commence from Saturday. The inspection was conducted to ensure that both the installation sites and pipeline alignments were finalised without delay.
The Mayor was accompanied by AMC Commissioner Ratnaprabha, the Central Zone Chairperson, the CEO of Agartala Smart City Limited, the Additional Commissioner of AMC, Superintending Engineers, the Chief Engineers of the PWD and Water Board, and the Electrical Engineer.
Majumder said the corporation aims to complete the entire project before the next monsoon season. He noted that areas such as Shakuntala Road and the stretch near Kalibari in front of the Satsang Ashram adjoining TRTC often experience waterlogging for 40 minutes to an hour after heavy rainfall. The new pumping infrastructure, he said, is expected to significantly improve drainage and provide lasting relief to residents in these vulnerable areas.
