Sudhangshu launches 50 Mini Mobile Veterinary Units to strengthen animal healthcare in Tripura

Date:

Agartala, 24th July 2026: In a major initiative to strengthen veterinary healthcare services across Tripura, Animal Resource Development, Fisheries and SC Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das on Friday inaugurated 50 block-level Mini Mobile Veterinary Units at Pragna Bhavan in Agartala and flagged off the vehicles for statewide operations.

The programme was attended by West Tripura Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Biswajit Shil, besides nearly 300 officials and employees of the Animal Resource Development Department.

Addressing the gathering, Das said the initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to making veterinary services modern, accessible and farmer-friendly. He said the mobile units would bring quality animal healthcare directly to the doorsteps of livestock rearers, helping improve animal health, reduce mortality, enhance productivity and boost the income of farmers dependent on animal husbandry.

As part of the programme, the Minister and other dignitaries symbolically handed over the keys of the vehicles to the drivers, formally launching the new service.

The newly introduced fleet builds upon the success of the 13 Mobile Veterinary Units already operating in the state, which were launched to provide emergency veterinary care. Equipped with modern veterinary equipment, the 50 Mini Mobile Veterinary Units aim to ensure faster and more efficient delivery of services at the block level.

Integrated with the 1962 toll-free veterinary helpline, the units will provide a range of doorstep services, including treatment of sick animals, emergency care, vaccination, deworming, artificial insemination, pregnancy diagnosis and disease surveillance.

The initiative is expected to significantly improve access to veterinary care across Tripura, particularly in rural and remote areas, while strengthening the state’s livestock sector and supporting the livelihoods of thousands of farmers.
