Agartala, 17th July 2026 : Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder on Friday appealed to public representatives and citizens to extend full cooperation for the successful conduct of the 2027 Census, stressing that accurate population data is the foundation for development planning and government welfare schemes.
Addressing an awareness programme on the Census, Majumder said the initiative marks the first phase of preparations for the nationwide population enumeration scheduled in 2027. He said the meeting was organised to sensitise elected representatives of the Agartala Municipal Corporation and city residents about their responsibilities and the importance of the census process.
Highlighting the significance of the exercise, the Mayor stated that both the Central and State Governments rely on census data while designing policies, implementing welfare programmes and allocating financial resources.
“The census is not merely about counting the population. It is a crucial exercise for public welfare and the formulation of people-centric development projects,” he said.
“Every development project, whether undertaken by the State Government or the Central Government, is based on population data. Therefore, the 2027 Census will play a vital role in building a developed India and a developed Tripura in the years ahead,” Majumder said.
He urged all public representatives to actively support the census drive and create awareness among citizens about its importance.
Majumder informed that the self-enumeration phase has commenced and will continue till July 21, while the field enumeration process will be carried out during August.
Appealing for public participation, he said residents should cooperate fully with enumerators when they visit households.
“When census officials and enumerators come to your homes, it is our responsibility to extend complete cooperation. Citizens in every ward, locality and neighbourhood must support the census teams because this exercise forms the very foundation of our development,” he said.
The Mayor further noted that allocations of funds and implementation of government schemes at the national, state and departmental levels are determined on the basis of census figures.
“Accurate census data plays a decisive role in the distribution of funds and planning for the future. I urge every citizen to participate wholeheartedly in the census process and make this important national exercise a success,” Majumder added.
