Agartala, 9th September 2025: With Durga Puja just around the corner, the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) is making elaborate preparations to honour local clubs with the prestigious Sharad Samman awards for their contribution to the grand festivities.
A preparatory meeting was convened on Tuesday at the AMC Conference Hall, chaired by Mayor Dipak Majumder in the presence of Deputy Mayor Manika Das Dutta, jury members, zonal chairpersons, MIC members and senior officials.
Mayor Majumder underlined the importance of the initiative, saying, “This is our third year organizing the Sharad Samman. It’s a way to recognize creativity, discipline, and social responsibility among the clubs.”
The awards will be presented across four AMC zones in four categories—Best Idol, Best Mandap, Best Lighting, and Best Theme. Each winner will receive 25,000 along with a trophy, while five top-performing clubs across the entire AMC jurisdiction will be awarded 50,000 each with a trophy.
To ensure transparency, the Mayor clarified that the judging will remain entirely independent. “No AMC officials will be part of the jury. Registered clubs will be visited and assessed solely on merit,” he assured.
Majumder also appealed to puja organizers to strictly adhere to AMC’s guidelines and include meaningful social themes in their decorations—such as awareness on HIV/AIDS, anti-drug campaigns, and environmental initiatives like tree plantation. A special award will also be given to the best women-led puja.
On preparations for the festivities, the Mayor said AMC teams are working tirelessly to complete road and drainage repairs before the celebrations. Additional lighting will be arranged to enhance the festive ambience. “Each participating club will be provided with two sanitation workers, and extra safai karmis will be deployed across the city to maintain cleanliness during the puja period,” he informed.
Majumder further added that idol immersion and the farewell ceremony, Mayer Gomon, will be conducted as per established protocols to ensure safety and order.
