Agartala, 7th January 2025: In a stark reflection of the current state of the education system, the test and examination records at Jatan Kumar Higher Secondary School in Jatanbari have alarmingly failed to cross double digits. The school, once reputable within the Karbuk subdivision, now finds itself at the center of controversy as significant pressure mounts from guardians demanding the promotion of their children.
This year, 52 students from Class 10 and 41 from Class 12 appeared for the test exams. Disturbingly, only about 5-6 students across both classes managed to pass. This dire outcome prompted 49 of the unsuccessful students to initiate a movement, demanding that the school allow them to pass the tests and sit for the board examinations.
“We cannot accept this failure rate. Our children deserve a chance to prove themselves. The school must reconsider its stance,” expressed a concerned parent.
Responding to the uproar, several ruling party leaders visited the school, extending their support to the students’ demands. They exerted pressure on the school authorities, prompting them to reconsider the SMC committee’s decision. Ultimately, the authorities acquiesced, deciding to re-examine the unsuccessful students in two subjects.
“This is an unfortunate turn of events. The school’s decision to yield under pressure undermines the integrity of our education system,” stated a local educator.
The intellectual community of the area has expressed shock and concern over the disappointing results and subsequent actions taken by the school’s administration. The situation highlights the urgent need for systemic improvements to enhance the quality of education and uphold academic standards.
