Agartala, 7th January 2025: Despite legally purchasing a shop in Shanti Para area of 8-Town Bardowali, businessman Uttam Banik is unable to start his business due to threats from local mafias posing as club members. Banik made this revelation today while speaking to media personnel here.
Uttam Banik explained that he bought the shop from two individuals on December 11. However, nearly a month later, he is still unable to open it. “Some youths, under the guise of a club, are repeatedly preventing me from opening my shop. They are threatening and intimidating me, trying to stop me from starting my business,” Banik stated.
Banik further alleged that he received no objections before the shop was registered. But now, he is being pressured to sell the shop to anti-social elements. “I bought the shop legally, but these threats have made it impossible to start my business,” he lamented.
In response to this ongoing harassment, Uttam Banik and his family have appealed to the state Chief Minister and local MLA Dr. Manik Saha for assistance. “We urge the authorities to take appropriate action against these anti-social elements,” Banik said.
The situation highlights the challenges faced by business owners in the area and raises concerns about the influence of local mafias on legitimate enterprises.
