Anganwadi Kendra at Dharmanagar in dire state, parents alarmed

Date:

Agartala, 23rd June 2026:   A centrally located Anganwadi Kendra on Mahesh Smriti Road, considered the heart of Dharmanagar town, is reeling under severe neglect and mismanagement. Just a short distance from the municipal office, the centre has lost its conducive learning environment, leaving parents deeply concerned.

The surroundings of the Kendra have turned into a dumping ground, littered with human waste, empty liquor bottles, and rotting garbage. The foul stench has created unbearable conditions, particularly for the children attending the facility. To make matters worse, the centre has been without electricity for an extended period, exposing children to extreme heat and discomfort.

Parents are increasingly reluctant to send their children to the Kendra, fearing health hazards. Interestingly, while residents are aware of the situation, many remain unwilling to speak openly, raising questions about the role of the local administration.

Civic groups and concerned citizens argue that if such conditions prevail in a Kendra located at the town’s core, the plight of centres in remote areas must be far worse. Anganwadi Kendras are vital for early childhood education and nutrition, and residents have urged the Social Welfare Department and municipal authorities to restore electricity, clear the garbage, and ensure a safe, hygienic environment without delay.
