Agartala, 12th March 2025:  Tripura Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Sangh, a body affiliated with the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh today highlighted their long-standing demands and urged immediate government action to resolve these issues.

Anganwadi workers, who play a pivotal role in maternal and child health, nutrition, and overall development, have allegedly faced years of deprivation and disregard.

Speaking to media personnel here, General Secretary of the Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Sangha Meena Debnath emphasized the importance of recognizing the contributions of these workers. “Anganwadi workers are the backbone of early child development and health in our society, yet their contributions remain undervalued. Our demands are not just fair but necessary to ensure a dignified life for our workers,” Debnath stated.

The Sangha outlined several critical demands, including the granting of government employee status to Anganwadi workers and helpers, a minimum monthly salary of Rs 24,000 for workers and Rs 21,000 for helpers, and a monthly pension of Rs 5,000 for workers and Rs 4,000 for helpers after retirement. Among these demands, there were also calls for addressing gaps in service infrastructure and additional support mechanisms to improve working conditions.

“If these demands continue to be ignored, we have no option but to escalate our protest,” Debnath warned, adding that any further action would be carried out with the approval of the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh. “Our commitment to this cause is unwavering, and our movement will only grow stronger if justice is not served.”

The Sangha also criticized the state’s administration for its lack of responsiveness. “Despite our repeated efforts to engage with the government, our voices have been sidelined time and again. This is a gross injustice to the workers who dedicate themselves to serving the community,” a representative said during the press meet.

The Tripura Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Sangh concluded the press conference by urging the state government to take swift and meaningful steps to address their grievances. “We hope the government understands the urgency of our demands and takes immediate action. The wellbeing of thousands of workers and the communities they serve is at stake,” Debnath remarked.

The conference has brought the spotlight on the pressing issues faced by Anganwadi workers, with a clear call for the government to act before the discontent escalates into a larger movement.
