Agartala, 30th April 2025: Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma today emphasized the crucial role forests play in human survival and highlighted the growing concerns over deforestation due to human negligence. Speaking at the inauguration of the program “Strengthening the Grassroots Forest Protection System in the State,” organized by the Forest Department at the Tripura State Forest Academy grounds today, the Minister called for collective action to address this crisis.
“Forests are vital for our survival, but the forest area is shrinking day by day. To tackle this challenge, we need to work as a coalition. Protecting our forests from the threats posed by smugglers requires robust infrastructure for grassroots forest protection workers,” said Debbarma.
In a significant step forward, 58 motorcycles were handed over to forest rangers from all districts of the state during the event. “The motorcycles distributed today will aid in the protection of the state’s forest lands. Additionally, this year we aim to plant even more trees, and steps will be taken to further enhance forest protection infrastructure in the future,” the Minister added.
The program commenced with a welcome speech by Chaitanya Murthy, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (A.P.R. and Protection). Distinguished guests, including Principal Secretary of the Forest Department and Head of Forest Force R.K. Shyamal, attended the event as guests of honor. Also present were PCCF (P. & D.) Praveen Agarwal, CCF (Territorial) Dr. K. Sasikumar, and other officers and staff from the Forest Department.
