AoJ demands immediate arrest over death threat to Journalist Manas Pal

Date:

Agartala, 29th October 2026 : The Assembly of Journalists (AoJ) has strongly condemned an alleged death threat issued against senior journalist Manas Pal on social media and demanded the immediate arrest of the person identified as Jayoti Chakma.

According to the AoJ, the threat followed Pal’s social media post concerning the Raisya Bari gang-rape case, allegedly involving NLFT militant Haflong Jamatia. The organisation has urged police to register a suo motu case, take legal action against those responsible and ensure the journalist’s safety.

In a statement issued on behalf of the organisation, AoJ representative Abhijit Ghosh called for urgent intervention by the state Home Secretary and the Director General of Police (DGP). The organisation warned that it would approach the Union Home Minister and the Prime Minister if necessary and take to the streets to protect journalists’ safety and freedom of expression.

The AoJ stressed that journalists must be able to express their views freely without facing threats or intimidation.
