Agartala, 27th June 2026:   Allegations of substance abuse, extortion, and illegal activities have sparked tension in the Aralia Shalban area of the capital city. A dispute reportedly linked to the alleged distribution of illegal earnings turned violent on Friday night, creating unrest in the locality. Following a complaint lodged by the Pratapgarh Yuva Morcha president, police conducted a search operation at a meat shop in the Shalban area on Saturday and reportedly recovered illicit liquor and suspected narcotic substances.

Pratapgarh Yuva Morcha president Manish Chakraborty alleged that the incident began when two Yuva Morcha activists, Biswajit Debnath and Binay Debnath, were returning home on Friday night. They reportedly asked people to remove motorcycles parked in front of a meat shop. Chakraborty said that a group of four to five individuals came out of the shop and allegedly attacked them.

He further claimed that illegal activities, including the sale of illicit liquor and narcotic substances, had been continuing from the shop for a long period. Acting on the complaint, police, along with local residents, searched the shop premises. During the operation, police reportedly seized liquor and suspected narcotic items. A person identified as Prabir Majumder was detained and taken to the police station for questioning.

The College Tilla police have started an investigation into the matter. Officials stated that the exact nature of the seized items and the truth behind the allegations will be confirmed after the completion of the investigation.

Meanwhile, the incident has created anger among residents of Aralia Shalban. Locals have raised concerns over the growing menace of drug abuse in the area and demanded strict action against those involved in illegal activities and violence. Some residents have also questioned the manner of the investigation and demanded that all persons connected with the incident be brought under the scope of police inquiry before legal action is taken.
