Agartala, 5th March 2025: Employees of ARKI Private Limited, a firm operating under the Tripura State Electricity Corporation staged a protest today in front of the company’s office in Joynagar, demanding the payment of their pending salaries. The protesters, comprising junior operators and technical assistants, alleged that they have not been paid regularly despite working for the organization for two years.
According to the employees, they are currently owed seven months’ salary. “If our salary is due for six months, we are given only one month’s payment,” one of the protesters claimed. They also alleged that they have not been provided with Employee Provident Fund (EPF) and Employee State Insurance (ESI) benefits, which has added to their grievances.
The protesters have given the organization a deadline of four to five days to clear their arrears. “If our dues are not settled within this time, we will escalate our movement,” warned one of the employees.
During the protest, an incident involving a female employee of the organization drew attention. Journalists covering the protest reported that the employee attempted to snatch a journalist’s mobile phone. When questioned, the woman fled the scene. The journalists condemned the act, emphasizing that such behavior is unacceptable and constitutes a violation of press freedom.
The employees have vowed to continue their fight for justice, while the incident involving the journalist has raised concerns about the treatment of media personnel during such events. The situation remains tense as the employees await a response from the organization.
