Agartala, 5th March 2025: Acting on a secret tip-off, the East Agartala Police conducted a late-night operation on Tuesday and arrested eight individuals involved in drug trafficking.
Speaking to reporters, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rana Chatterjee confirmed that the police had seized 36 grams of heroin, several mobile phones, and cash during the operation. The estimated market value of the seized heroin is over Rs 4 lakh.
“We received information about drug dealings near schools and colleges in Agartala city,” said OC Rana Chatterjee. “In response, our team launched a well-coordinated operation, resulting in the arrest of eight traffickers and the recovery of heroin and other items,” he added.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Manav Saha, Usman Mia, Sohel Chowdhury, Bapi Saha, Sanjay Debbarma, and Vishal Deb. “These individuals were actively selling drugs near educational institutions, putting young lives at risk,” added the OC.
The accused were presented before the court today with the police seeking a three-day remand for further investigation. OC Rana Chatterjee emphasized that this successful operation is part of the police’s ongoing efforts to combat the drug menace in the city.
