Agartala: January 17. CPIM state committee secretary Jitendra Choudhury on Tuesday wrote a letter to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Kiran Gitte demanding to arrange voting of Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawans now under deputation in other states.

In the letter, Choudhury said, “You might have known that about 1500 to 2000 TSR (Tripura State Rifles) jawans are now posted in deputation at Chhattisgarh and some other states. Most of them are permanent resident of Tripura and their names are enrolled in electoral roll of the state”.

He pointed out that according to provision, they are not entitled to get EDC nor would they get leave en-masse to come to Tripura for casting vote.

“On the other hand, The Commission should not ignore right to franchise of such a large number of electors who are engaged in Nobel duty of maintenance of security in various parts of the country. In such a juncture, I request the Commission to explore how their right to vote is protected if necessary arranging voting in their place of posting”, the letter added.
