ARTIST seminar discusses TTAADC empowerment, tribal development

Date:

Agartala, 29th August 2026: A seminar on the empowerment of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) and the overall development of the state’s tribal population was held at the Agartala Press Club on Saturday.

The seminar was organised by the Assembly of Retired Tribals Intellectuals & Scholars of Tripura (ARTIST), bringing together retired intellectuals, scholars and other distinguished individuals to discuss tribal rights, development and the future role of the autonomous council.

Speaking at the seminar, former state government Law Secretary Datamohan Jamatia elaborated on the constitutional powers and administrative responsibilities of the TTAADC. He stressed the importance of strengthening local self-governance to accelerate development in tribal-dominated areas.

Speakers said that TTAADC empowerment should go hand in hand with improvements in education, healthcare, employment, connectivity, economic opportunities and social infrastructure. They emphasised the need for coordinated efforts, effective planning and greater participation of all stakeholders for sustainable development of tribal society.

Among those present were Samir Debbarma, Dr Satya Ranjan Debbarma and Dhiraj Debbarma, along with other members of ARTIST and invited participants. They shared their views on the council’s present role and its future prospects.

The organisers said empowerment of the TTAADC should not be viewed merely as an administrative issue, but as an important means of advancing the educational, economic, cultural and social interests of Tripura’s tribal population.

They called for wider public discussion and greater awareness of issues concerning the autonomous council and tribal development. ARTIST members also expressed their commitment to organising similar discussions and initiatives in the future.
