Agartala, 29th April 2026: ‘Asha Bharosa Diwas’ was celebrated with enthusiasm at the Bungnang Primary Health Centre (PHC) on Wednesday, under the initiative of the Department of Health and Family Welfare, North Tripura District. The programme aimed at strengthening the capacity of ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) workers and enhancing community-level public health awareness.
The event, held at the PHC conference hall, witnessed the participation of 65 ASHA workers and 4 ASHA Facilitators. Healthcare staff including a Multi-Purpose Worker (MPW), a Multi-Purpose Supervisor, and a Pharmacist were also present. Medical Officer of Bungnang PHC, Dr. Prasenjit Das, attended as the keynote speaker and resource person.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Das highlighted the vital role of ASHA workers in delivering healthcare services at the grassroots level. He provided detailed insights into the symptoms, prevention, and treatment of various diseases, equipping participants with practical knowledge for fieldwork.
The programme featured focused discussions on several pressing public health concerns. With rising temperatures, ASHA workers were sensitized about preventive measures against heatwave-related illnesses such as heatstroke and dehydration. They were advised to encourage villagers to avoid exposure during peak afternoon hours and maintain adequate hydration.
Emphasis was also laid on the importance of the HPV vaccine in preventing cervical cancer. ASHA workers were urged to play an active role in ensuring vaccination coverage among adolescent girls.
Given the vulnerability of the region to vector-borne diseases, malaria prevention strategies were discussed in detail. Participants were instructed to promote the use of mosquito nets and discourage water stagnation in residential areas. Additionally, ahead of the monsoon season, awareness regarding waterborne diseases like diarrhea, typhoid, and cholera was highlighted, with a focus on safe drinking water and personal hygiene practices.
“The contribution of ASHA workers is indispensable in strengthening rural healthcare delivery. Today’s training will further empower them to serve the community with greater efficiency and awareness,” Dr. Das said.
The programme concluded on a positive note with the distribution of nutritious refreshments among participants, marking the event as both informative and engaging.
