Asish accuses BJP for looting fund of MNREGA, not generating mandays

BY TC News Desk

Agartala, 13th June 2024:  Asish Kumar Saha, President of Pradesh Congress Committee, has accused the BJP government of mismanaging MNREGA funds and failing to provide adequate employment opportunities under the scheme. He criticized what he called the BJP’s “anti-people double engine government,” alleging it has exacerbated poverty in rural Tripura.

Saha emphasized MNREGA’s crucial role in the local economy, lamenting a decline in work opportunities and accusing BJP leaders of diverting funds meant for the scheme’s beneficiaries. He highlighted significant reductions in employment days in districts like Dhalai, once an ‘aspirational district,’ which now reportedly falls short of previous standards under the current administration.

Furthermore, Saha expressed concerns over corruption within the system, attributing this to the BJP’s negligence in implementing oversight mechanisms like drone surveillance and social audits. He warned that such actions jeopardize the livelihoods of rural residents and vowed democratic consequences for those who undermine workers’ rights.

In summary, Saha’s statements underscore a critical view of the BJP’s governance in Tripura, focusing on alleged misappropriation of MNREGA funds and its adverse impact on rural communities.
