Agartala, 17th March 2024: The Assam Rifles and Border Security Force deployed in Tripura in a joint operation seized contraband items including brown sugar worth Rs 2 crore. According to Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with the customs department, they seized 240 kg of Marijuana worth Rs 1.08 Crore from General Area Jirania, West Tripura district on 17 March.
“Based on credible information, a joint operation was launched by Assam Rifles in the general area Jirania. The team seized 240 Kg of Marijuana worth Rs 1.08 Crore. Seized contents were handed over to Customs Department for further investigation & legal proceedings”, said a press release of Assam Rifles.
While, in another operation BSF in a joint operation with Railway Protection Force seized 290.50 grams of suspected brown sugar worth Rs 1.45 Crore at Kumarghat railway station in Unakoti District from the general coach of Silchar Agartala express. Consignment was packed in 06 soap cases kept in two packets . Soap cases were wrapped as a gift packet to avoid the suspicion or detection by security personnel. No apprehension could be made as the packets were seized in abandoned condition. Further investigation is going on
