Agartala, 21st January 2025: The Assembly of Journalists (AoJ), an organization representing journalists and media professionals, will hold a discussion and exchange meeting on the theme of journalism in the current context. The event is scheduled to take place on January 28 at 4 PM at the Agartala Press Club.
The primary focus of the meeting will be addressing the challenges faced by journalists in today’s evolving media landscape, fostering professional responsibility, and elevating the standards and dignity of the profession. (AOJ) has designed the initiative to enable the younger generation of journalists to learn from the valuable experiences of senior media professionals.
At a press conference held at the Agartala Press Club on Tuesday, (AOJ) General Secretary Shanit Debroy emphasized the organization’s commitment to ensuring the safety, growth, and professional development of journalists and news workers in Tripura.
“In recent years, two journalists have tragically lost their lives in the state, and many have faced violence. Newspaper offices have been attacked, and independent journalism has been under threat. While the current situation has improved, there is still much to be done to achieve comprehensive professional safety and development for all in the media industry,” said Shri Debroy.
He also highlighted (AOJ)’s efforts to provide opportunities for professional enhancement through workshops featuring distinguished figures from outside the state. However, he stressed the importance of contextualizing these efforts within the unique challenges and circumstances of journalism in Tripura. “This meeting is a step towards guiding the future generation with insights from the past and present of journalism in the state, shared by local experts,” he added.
Shri Debroy called upon all journalists, including editors and professionals from newspapers, television channels, and web portals, to actively participate in the event. He emphasized that the platform will allow attendees to voice their concerns and share their perspectives on various professional issues.
The press conference was attended by (AOJ) Vice President Dibakar Debnath, Secretary Dr. Bishwendu Bhattacharya, Jayanta Debnath, and Uttam Chakraborty, along with Executive Members Pratik Mahanalbish, Abhijit Ghosh, Prosenjit Bhattacharya, Subrata Ghosh, and Manish Acharya.
