Attack on Journalist : Five Youths Arrested

Agartala, May 12, 2024: In a disturbing incident in the Ganaraj Choumuhani area of the capital, journalist Bapi Roy fell victim to a brutal assault by miscreants while returning home from duty. The assault left Roy with severe head injuries, sparking outrage and condemnation from the media fraternity.

According to reports, the altercation unfolded on May 10 when Roy, on his way home, engaged in a verbal dispute with a group of five youths in the Ganaraj choumuhani area. The situation escalated tragically when the assailants attacked Roy, resulting in serious injuries to his head.

Upon lodging a complaint at the East Agartala police station, an investigation swiftly commenced. The diligent efforts of law enforcement led to the identification of a crucial lead – CCTV footage capturing the vicinity during the incident. Notably, a scooter without a license plate was spotted in the footage, prompting authorities to trace its owner.

Subsequent interrogation of the scooter owner yielded crucial information, ultimately leading to the apprehension of five suspects involved in the heinous attack. The arrested individuals have been identified as Titon Deb, Atrajit Das, Dipankar Guha, Sagar Dev, and Jiban Sarkar. Among them, Atrajit Das stands accused of wielding the scooter key to inflict harm upon journalist Bapi Roy.

The arrested suspects, all residents of GB 79 Tila area, have been charged under multiple sections of the law. Following due process, the police presented them before the court on Sunday for further legal proceedings.
