Agartala, 28th December 2025: In the wake of recent attacks on minority communities in Bangladesh, a group of unruly youths, under the banner of the Hindu Unity Forum, reportedly tried to forcibly halt the import-export trade between India and Bangladesh at Manu Land Customs. However, the attempt failed due to prompt action by authorities and intervention from trade organizations.
Gourachandra Adhikari, President of the 19-District Import-Export Business Committee, stated that trade at Manu Land Customs is operating normally. He clarified that operations were only halted on December 25 in observance of Christmas. He emphasized that international trade is governed by central government policies and laws, and no individual or organization has the authority to forcibly suspend it.
Adhikari alleged that the attempt to block border trade was a well-planned conspiracy exploiting religious sentiments, which could have severely affected the livelihoods of workers and traders.
Following the incident, security at Manu Land Customs has been tightened, with enhanced monitoring by the BSF, customs officials, and police. To prevent such incidents in the future, business organizations have submitted a written report to Kailashahar Police Station.
