Agartala, 2nd April 2024: An insightful awareness program and brainstorming session on Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) 2024 took center stage today at Tripura Central University. The initiative, spearheaded by the District Election Officer of Tripura West Parliamentary Constituency, alongside the District Magistrate of West Tripura District , saw active participation from esteemed dignitaries and enthusiastic students alike.
The event, graced by the esteemed presence of Chief Electoral Officer Punit Agarwal, commenced with an inaugural address emphasizing the significance of democratic participation. Agarwal reiterated the Election Commission of India’s longstanding endeavor since 2009 to bolster public engagement in the parliamentary electoral process through SVEEP initiatives.
“Every individual, regardless of socio-economic status, religion, or caste, holds the fundamental right to partake in the electoral process,” stated Agarwal, emphasizing the pivotal role of social equality in fostering a robust democratic framework.
Students were urged not only to exercise their own voting rights but also to actively encourage their peers and neighbors to embrace electoral participation. As part of the program, a thought-provoking documentary titled ‘I Am Voter of India’ was screened, further instilling a sense of civic responsibility among attendees.
Adding vibrancy to the occasion, university students showcased various cultural performances, underscoring the celebration of democratic values. Notable personalities including Tripura Central University Vice-Chancellor Gangaprasad Prosain, West Tripura District Commissioner Dr. Vishal Kumar, and SVEEP icons Padmasree Deepa Karmakar and Mithun Debvarma graced the event, enriching the discourse with their insights.
An engaging open quiz session provided an interactive platform for students to delve deeper into electoral processes and democratic principles. Concluding the program on a dynamic note, the distinguished guests flagged off a campaign car ride, symbolizing the collective journey towards inclusive electoral participation in the Tripura West Parliamentary Constituency.
