Agartala, 11th December 2025:   A Bangladeshi national was arrested near Chandpur, close to Churaibari Police Station, after being found roaming suspiciously during a routine patrol on Tuesday night.

Police said Sub-Inspector Pradip Burman, who was on mobile duty, detained the man following suspicious movements. During preliminary questioning, the detainee identified himself as Ratan Vaishnav, son of Ashta Lal Vaishnav, a resident of Nabiganj in Sylhet, Bangladesh. He admitted that he had crossed into India illegally through the Karimganj border in Assam about two to three months ago. Since then, he had been working as a laborer at different locations in Tripura and taking temporary shelter at various places.

Authorities confirmed that no passport, visa, or valid entry documents were found in his possession. Police noted that the arrest was possible only because of routine patrolling in the area.

Following his detention, a case was registered under Section 21 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, and he was produced before the court on December 11, 2025. During the hearing, defense lawyer P.K. Nath applied for bail, but the judge rejected the plea.

After completion of legal procedures, Ratan Vaishnav was sent to judicial custody on December 19, 2025, lawyer Radhakanta Das informed the media.

Officials stated that surveillance measures are being strengthened to curb illegal infiltration across the border.
