Agartala, 23rd October 2026 : A Bangladeshi national was apprehended during a joint operation by the Border Security Force (BSF) and Tripura Police in the Kadamtala area of North Tripura on Thursday for allegedly entering India illegally through the international border.
The arrested person has been identified as Moinuddin Mia (40), alias Dalim Mia, a resident of the Juri police station area in Bangladesh’s Moulvibazar district. He is reportedly the son of Khalid Mia of the East Botoli-Birentala locality.
According to police sources, acting on specific intelligence inputs, personnel from Kadamtala Police Station, along with jawans of the D Company of the BSF’s 97th Battalion, launched a joint operation in the Yakubnagar Border Outpost area. During the operation, the accused was detained from the residence of Taiyab Ali in Ward No. 1 of Ichairpar under West Pratyek Roy Gram Panchayat.
Following the operation, the BSF completed the necessary formalities and handed over the detainee to Kadamtala Police Station. Police subsequently registered a case under the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025.
Officer-in-Charge of Kadamtala Police Station, Gurupada Debnath, confirmed that the case was registered as Kadamtala Police Station Case No. 62/26. The accused was produced before the Dharmanagar court on Friday in connection with the case.
During preliminary interrogation, investigators reportedly learned that Moinuddin had married Rukiya Akhtar Happy, daughter of local resident Taiyab Ali, around 13 years ago. The couple has a son and a daughter, and his wife and children have reportedly been staying at her parental home in Kadamtala for a considerable period.
Police sources further stated that the accused allegedly confessed to crossing the international border illegally on Wednesday afternoon after paying around Rs 10,000 to a broker. He reportedly took shelter at his in-laws’ residence after entering the country.
Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding his alleged illegal entry, including the suspected role of the broker who reportedly facilitated the crossing. The incident has once again drawn attention to border security and the prevention of unauthorised cross-border movement in North Tripura.
