Belonia Municipal Council seizes expired food items, banned polythene in special enforcement drive

Agartala, 26th July 2026:  The Belonia Municipal Council on Sunday carried out a special enforcement drive in the Barpathari and Sonaichhari areas to ensure food safety and environmental protection.

During the operation, officials seized and destroyed expired food items, including chips, cold drinks, ghee, honey, biscuits, bakery products, and other consumables from several shops in the presence of the respective traders. The team also confiscated around 45 kg of banned polythene carry bags and distributed eco-friendly biodegradable carry bags to the traders as an alternative.

In addition, 25 litres of diesel were seized during the drive. The Municipal Council imposed a total fine of Rs 3,000 for various violations and served notices to 12 traders.

The Belonia Municipal Council stated that it remains committed to safeguarding public health, ensuring food safety, and protecting the environment. It also informed that similar enforcement drives will continue in the coming days to ensure compliance with regulations.
