Agartala, 30th March 2025 :   Dharmanagar witnessed a rare and poignant moment of unity as the untimely death of Dr. Jamirul Rahman fondly known as Dr JR Rahman brought people from diverse religious backgrounds together in mourning. This exceptional scene took place during a period of communal tensions, underscoring the profound impact Dr. Rahman had on the lives of many.

Born into a poor family in Mangal Khali village, under the Jubarajnagar assembly constituency, Dr. Rahman’s early life was marked by hardship. His innate talent and determination, however, earned him the support of villagers from various communities, who came forward to help him pursue his education. Through relentless effort, Dr. Rahman rose to prominence, earning an MBBS degree followed by an MD in medicine.

After serving briefly in a government position, Dr. Rahman established a private clinic in Dharmanagar, dedicating himself to humanitarian service. His exceptional medical skills and compassionate nature endeared him to people from all walks of life, including Hindus, Muslims, Christians, and Buddhists. Beyond his profession, Dr. Rahman was a man of many talents—he wrote poetry and sang beautifully.

However, despite his accomplishments, Dr. Rahman carried an unspoken burden. Struggles with mental illness gradually took a toll, eventually leading to a diagnosis of cancer. His untimely passing left a void that brought together thousands, from Chennai to Dharmanagar, to pay their last respects. The overwhelming turnout at his funeral, marked by shared grief across religious lines, was a testament to his extraordinary legacy.

Dr. Rahman’s contributions to society and his ability to bridge communities will remain etched in the hearts of the people of Dharmanagar forever.
