Agartala, 22nd August 2025:    Tension flared along the Indo-Bangla border after a Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) jawan was arrested by the Border Security Force (BSF) for illegally entering Indian territory with a knife.

The jawan, identified as Mohammad Siraj of the 60th Battalion’s Madla BOP in Brahmanbaria, had intruded nearly 150 meters inside the zero line on the Tripura border Thursday afternoon. BSF troops of the 49th Battalion intercepted him after a chase.

According to sources, Siraj is suspected to have links with cross-border smuggling and other illicit activities. The Madla border area is infamous as a smuggling hub, often witnessing drug recoveries and violent encounters.

Following the arrest, the BGB urgently sought a flag meeting and pressed for his release. Though BSF reportedly held evidence of his involvement in aiding smugglers, the jawan was handed back to Bangladesh in the interest of “friendly relations” between the two nations.

However, BSF officials have issued a stern warning to their counterparts, making it clear that such incidents must not recur if harmony between the border forces is to be maintained.
