Agartala Dec 17: Amid numerous allegations against pitiable condition of welfare hostel, Minister of SC Welfare Department, Bhagaban Das on Saturday visited Bhagini Nivedita Girls Hostel with a team of officials.
Students staying in Bhagini Nivedita hostel raised numerous allegations including unhygienic toilets, bathrooms, insufficient water, poor quality food and also raised severe allegations of misconduct by hostel superintendent Dr Tripti Saha.Interacting with the inmates, the minister and officials inspected the hostel premises.
Hostel superintendent was unaware of the minister’s surprise visit who spotted the unhealthy condition of the kitchen, washbasins not clean and all vegetables on stock were almost rotten.Talking to the reporters, the minister said, “In past ne year the department has spend a lot of money to improve the quality of living in the hostels. Starting from furniture’s, repair work and others hostels have been provided money”.
“I have listened to the grievances of the students here and also inspected the condition personally”, he said.Being asked about the harassment complaints raised against the hostel super, the minister said, “Proper action will be taken after investigation”.
Students of the hostel met education minister Ratan Lal Nath at his residence few days back to lodge similar complaints. Following which the Minister of SC Welfare along with officials of the department visited the hostel on Saturday.On the other hand, Dr Tripti Saha, hostel superintendent was speechless before the media and said that as she scolded the girls on certain issues like wearing short dresses, the girls started complaints against her.
