Agartala, 6th October 2026 : With the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) elections likely to be held within the next couple of months, the civic body has announced a series of measures and concessions for Durga Puja organisers ahead of the festive season.
A crucial meeting of the Agartala Municipal Corporation was held on Tuesday to review preparations for the upcoming Durga Puja. Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath, AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder, Deputy Mayor Monika Das Dutta and several corporators were present at the meeting.
Speaking to reporters, Mayor Dipak Majumder said that a large number of people from different parts of the state visit Agartala during Durga Puja to witness the celebrations. Keeping the expected rush in mind, the AMC has taken steps to repair roads across the municipal area and ensure adequate lighting arrangements so that visitors can move around the city safely and comfortably.
The Mayor said that the civic body has also decided to deploy members of the Green Army at Durga Puja venues during the festival days to maintain cleanliness and ensure proper sanitation around the puja pandals.
In a major relief to puja organisers, the AMC has decided to bear the electricity bill for up to 5 kW for all registered Durga Puja committees under its jurisdiction. The decision is expected to provide financial relief to several puja organisers.
The meeting also discussed the city’s electricity infrastructure. According to the Mayor, work to shift electricity transmission lines underground in Agartala city will begin on October 13 with a Bhoomi Pujan ceremony.
The civic body’s decisions come ahead of the Durga Puja season, which is expected to draw large crowds to Agartala. The AMC said preparations are being undertaken to ensure better civic amenities, cleanliness, lighting and road connectivity during the festival.
