Agartala, 6th October 2026 : BJP state president and MLA Abhishek Debroy said there was no reason for BJP or NDA workers to be concerned over the outcome of the recent Village Committee (VC) elections, asserting that the alliance had the organisational strength to face political challenges.
Speaking to reporters, Debroy said the BJP had witnessed several close contests in the VC polls and claimed that its vote tally had increased by more than 1,500 compared to the previous election. He said the party had also performed well in the Matabari Assembly constituency.
“There is no cause for concern regarding the BJP or the NDA. Both the BJP and the NDA possess the capability to counter this,” he said.
Debroy said the morale of BJP and Tipra Motha workers remained high despite “friendly fights” between alliance partners in some areas. “There is no confusion. Even if minor issues exist in one or two places, they will be resolved,” he said.
Taking aim at the CPI(M), he alleged that people in the tribal areas had rejected the party because of its past policies and alleged failure to deliver development during its long tenure in power. He cited drinking water connections, roads, housing, electricity, Anganwadi centres and other infrastructure projects in the hills as examples of development undertaken in recent years.
“People are realizing this, and the hill residents, having understood the situation, delivered a decisive response in the ADC elections,” he said.
On CPI(M) leader Jitendra Chaudhury’s statement that only the NDA had won the VC elections and that the BJP should not be separately credited, Debroy said the NDA was a BJP-led alliance and pointed to the participation of Tipra Motha and IPFT representatives in recent NDA meetings.
He also criticised opposition parties for raising questions about EVMs after electoral defeats, saying such allegations should not be made selectively.
Regarding Matabari, Debroy cited several closely contested VCs where the BJP lost by narrow margins. He said the party would continue its organisational work and contest the 2028 Assembly election democratically while seeking the people’s mandate.
