Agartala, 9th November 2023 : The Bhubaneswari Temple, located in Rajnagar in Udaipur, is a historical and religious attraction for tourists from different states and countries. The temple, which is under the responsibility of conservation and maintenance of the Department of Archaeology of India, is in a dilapidated condition and needs urgent attention.
The living rooms made for tourists are crumbling, with the plaster of the ceiling and the iron doors falling apart. The drinking water tank, which was constructed in 2015 at a cost of Rs 1 lakh 39 thousand 730, is lying in a useless condition and not providing any water to the visitors. The temple premises are also filled with garbage and weeds, making it look like a jungle.
A tourist from Bangladesh, who came to visit Tripura, said that he was very impressed by the Rajarshi, but he wished that the temple was cleaned and maintained more beautifully. He said that the temple would look more splendid if it was taken care of properly.
The Bhubaneswari Temple is a part of the Rajarshi, which was the royal palace of the Manikya dynasty. The temple was built by Maharaja Govinda Manikya in the 17th century and is dedicated to Goddess Bhubaneswari, who is considered to be the patron deity of the royal family. The temple is also famous for being the backdrop of the Oscar-winning movie The World of Apu, directed by Satyajit Ray.
The Department of Archaeology of India, which is in charge of preserving and protecting the temple, has not taken any steps to improve the condition of the temple and its surroundings. The tourists, who come to see the temple, are disappointed and dissatisfied with the state of affairs. They demand that the authorities take immediate action to restore the temple to its former glory and provide basic facilities to the visitors.
